Valsassina was dug for centuries. Through its mountains run kilometers – long tunnels once used to extract various types of minerals , a very important source for the industrial development of Lecco.
Nowadays it is possible to rediscover this ancient mining activity in the mines open to visitors.
In the Pian dei Resinelli massif there are two of the oldest mines: Anna and Cavallo / Silvia. Recently restored , they can be visited by contacting the Resinelli Mining Park.
Guided tours of the mines are conducted in small groups , at all safe conditions and wearing a protective helmet. The underground world seems to be still intact and the well trained guides explain the secrets of extraction techniques and those of miners’ life. The mines are an ideal destination for group visits of students and parishes.
The visits are from March to October on Sunday at 10.30am, 2.30pm and 4pm. From June to August also on Saturday. The possibility to confirm the visits depends on the wheather conditions.
