Piona Abbey or, more exactly, Piona Priory is located on the Olgiasca peninsula facing Gravedona on the farthest tip of the Lecco branch of the lake.
With panoramic views over the lake, it offers the opporunity to enjoy the tranquility and the peace enjoyed by the cistercian monks who still live there nowaday.
The Abbey, which can be reached by car along a cobbled street that branches off the SP72, is a typical building of the comacina art. Made in visible square stone is a rare gem of the romanic lombard architecture. The church contains the remains of ancient frescos. To the right of the apse stands a beautiful square bell tower.
To be seen is the charming cloister built in the transitional style from roman to gothic. This is the reference point around the monastery, a place of silence and prayer. The chapter house, located on the eastern side of the cloister, is still used by the community of monks.
A nice walk, surrounded by tall cypress trees, leads to the lake with a beautiful view. There is also a small kiosk.
The Abbey is open from Monday to Sunday from 9 to 12 a.m. and from 2.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and it’s available a large free parking.

An easy walk to walk in all seasons and suitable for everyone, including families with children, which takes us to the discovery of the green lawns at Piani di Nava.
Reach the hamlet of Bajedo in Pasturo and leave the car in the nearby car park. Get to a beautiful little church by moving through the characteristics narrow streets in the historical centre. Moving on go up towards the Rocca di Bajedo area, that once was a castle. Nowadays just a few ruins are left, but it is still famous because here took place the story of Lasco, the bandit of Valsassina.
At the crossroads there are three options: going right to the Rocca di Bajedo, straight on to the Sassi Rossi and left to Piani di Nava.
The path climbs up, well marked, with remarkable views over the plain of Pasturo, the Grigna and facing the Valsassinese Plateau.
In about an hour of easy walk is Piani di Nava, a green plateau, a place of relaxation and picnics.
From here it possible to move on to Riva Mountain Hut or to the little church of San Calimero and Pialeral and Rifugio Antonietta.
MUU is the Milk and History of the Muggiasca Museum in Vendrogno. It was created with the task of preserving and passing on facts and traditions linked to life and material culture in the Muggiasca.
The aim is to promote a shared and sustainable vision of the land and its development, as a synthesis of economy and culture.
The MUU was inaugurated in Vendrogno in June 2008 in the area of the former shifting-dairy. It’s run by the social no profit association Insieme per il Museo di Vendrogno, with the support of the Vendrogno Municipality. Since 2010 the museum is part of the System Museum in the Province of Lecco.
The main tour is made up from the full dairy equipment, exhibited in the four original rooms that once made up the working area of the shifting-dairy and now occupying the Museum ground floor.
The other rooms display in turns objects, images, archival materials and multimedia tools related to different aspects of culture, economy and history of the country: from the wood to domestic life, from emigration to the beauty of the landscape.
Free entry during opening hours
1 euro fee per person for tours upon appointment
Premaniga ( 1400 m ) is one of the twelve pastures in Premana.
Mountain pastures or “ Mont ”, as they are called in Premana , are scattered everywhere on the whole area and in the past used to be the location for summer pastures of cattle and goats. In Premaniga in particular , unlike in other pastures , transhumance is still practiced thanks to a group of willing farmers and the ” casina ” recently restored and used for processing milk. Nowadays Alpe Premaniga , just like the other “ Mont ”, has essentially become the summer holiday residence of the inhabitants of Premana. Due to its proximity to Pizzo Alto it is also a transit point for many hikers passing by on the way to win its summit.
It is certainly a place of incredible beauty , as we are told by the photos by Giamba Gianola.
It can be reached in about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Premana starting from Via Martiri di Cefalonia. Walk along the path winding up the mountain and pass through the hamlet of Pezzaprà. As an alternative follow the new agricultural , farming and woodland road which can also be travelled by mountain bike.
In the pasture there is the Bar Ristoro Alpe Premaniga , with bar and restaurant service.
A beautiful route for mountain bike lovers along the trails of Lake Como mountains. The itinerary lends itself to numerous variations.
Start from Bellano and climb up to Vendrogno passing the pastures of Tedoldo and Camaggiore. From here continue towards Alpe Giumello or go back down along the other way leading to Dervio, as shown in the photoes.
Along the way the signposts suggest 4 different routes that can be combined on the way up and down.

This itinerary leads to Piani di Bobbio along the “Pequeno” path, an alternative route running from Barzio and retracing the route of the old chairlift operating in the 60s.
It’s a pretty steep path recommended on the way up to Bobbio and a little less on the way down.
Start from Barzio graveyard and follow the signposts to Piani di Bobbio – Pequeno.
After a few gently sloping hairpin turns there’s an isolated house and the remains of an old pillar of the chairlift. A little further on some signposts lead to a trail climbing steeply through the wood. After an ascent of about 15 minutes a rocky area with some turns and steps is reached. Once this part is over the path suddenly continues off the wood and it appears a clearing where the beautiful Masone Mountain Hut stands (1124 m.a.s.l.). To get here time needed is about 45 minutes.
Going up the lawn, follow the path and get into the wood. Then the vegetation becomes sparser and some rocky plates are found here and there. After about half an hour from the mountain hut the ruins of the old middle station of the chairlift are found. The climb is not calming down, but behind it there is a wonderful view of the valley.
In about 45 minutes climb the path comes to the open space in front of the old Hotel Pequeno now closed and abandoned.
From here there’s a comfortable carriage road which, in about a quarter of an hour, leads to Piani di Bobbio nearby “Fortino” chairlift.
