A simple itinerary , suitable for every season of the year , to walk peaceful into the wood without any difficulty and arrival in a surprisingly remarkable setting with a wonderful view.
Leave the car in the hamlet of Indovero , within the village of Casargo , and head towards the small Madonna di Pomaleccio church. From here , in approximately 1 hour time , an easy dirt mule road leads to Alpe Intelco. The path in the wood is pleasant and the ascent is rather sweet. Once in Intelco a small group of mountain huts is seen and it’s possible to start appreciating the view over Mount Cimone di Margno.
From here , in approximately 15 minutes , the itinerary gets to Alpe Ortighera. This last part of the way offers sweeping views over Premana and the High Valvarrone and at end the imposing Mount Legnone is faced. At the arrival there’s the large barn used as a shelter for animals , a beautiful green lawn for a picnic and a nice chapel with St. Antonio and the animals , through whose glass it’s possible to enjoy a beautiful view.
The itinerary can be travelled entirely by mountain bike.
It’s possibile to continue to Alpe Giumello.

Alpe Camaggiore is a small pasture overlooking the lake, in the area of Bellano – Vendrogno. It’s famous for the beautiful views over Bellano and Dervio that can be enjoyed from there. Camaggiore is a destination for families relaxation and recreation and for sun and walk lovers.
It can be reached by car, starting from Vendrogno and going up from Sanico along the winding road taking to the hamlets of S. Grato, Busè and Tedoldo (from Sanico it’s about 10 minutes drive).
Leave the car at the end of the carriage road and continue on foot for about 15 minutes along the scenic agricultural, farming and woodland road leading to the alp. With a special permit the place can also be reached by car (contact Vendrogno Municipality to ask for it).
A wooden signpost announces the arrival in Camaggiore “The Pearl of the Muggiasca” where the mountain chalets can be seen. Nowadays the chalets are completely renovated and used as a holiday homes.
Go past the chalets there’s a plateau with green lawns shaded by birch trees, a kids’ playground and several picnic tables.
Just beyond and overlooking the lake are the astonishing church and the huge iron cross whose 50th anniversary is celebrated in 2015. From here there’s a not-to-miss view.
In just a few more steps there’s another well-shot place “Il Cantun della Breva”: it’s an area of the lake where the wind blows so strong to have bent a birch tree.
Moving on for another few hundred meters there’s a flat and green area with views over the lake, Mount Legnoncino, Mount Legnone and Valvarrone.
The road continues and it’s possible to take a walk in the wood. The signposts show the possibility to reach S. Ulderico church in Giumello, but the path is rarely used and here and there can be hard to follow (time needed: approx. 45 minutes). From Camaggiore you can instead go up to Giumello from the steep but easy to climb path leading to Pra Bolscino (time needed: 1 hour and 45’) or take the path leading to S. Grato (time needed: 1 hour) or go down to Dervio.
All these itineraries are perfect for mountain bike as well.
Villa Monastero, a property of the Province of Lecco, is one of the most interesting attractions of our territory thanks to its strategic location, its history, its landscape, its environment and for the different services which it can offer.
The House Museum, the historical and noble residence, is at its core: in the year 2004 Villa Monastero was given the title of “Casa Museo” by the Lombardy Region and since then its fourteen rooms can be visited following a charming itinerary, where a vast number of objects belonging to its several owners are displayed. The 14 rooms of the house are completely furnished. All of them, from the Pool Hall to the Music Hall, from the Mornico Parlour to the Main Room, offer visitors the opportunities to go back to the past through the various styles, the precious materials and the luxurious decorations. Style and taste characterise this unique jewel that has been shining on the Lake Como for four centuries. In the 18th century, Italian and foreign prominent personalities of the cultural and artistic scene frequented the Villa, which was then inhabited.
Villa Monastero is also an international Conference Centre where, in the year 1954, the Nobel prize winner Enrico Fermi held some lessons. The Villa offers rooms and facilities to hold meetings, conferences, seminars, training activities, workshops and cultural events in an unforgettable, beautiful setting. Every year the Italian Society of Physics organizes its prestigious courses at the Villa Monastero.
The Villa is surrounded by a spectacular and fascinating botanical Garden which extends for two kilometres from Varenna to Fiumelatte; offering recreation and learning opportunities thanks to the presence of many botanical species, both indigenous and exotic. The Garden, being set up in terraces, has been structured in different patterns over the years yet maintaining a main recurring theme. The mild climate, peculiar to the lake, allows numerous botanic species from all over the world to grow. At every time of the year visitors can enjoy a true explosion of colours, shapes and perfumes.
The beauty of Villa Monastero’s background is the ideal setting for a wedding location and for photographic shootings both for fashion columns and for touristic magazines.
In the Villa you can also find an Exhibition room specifically equipped to house temporary exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, art objects. The artists have at their disposal two spacious rooms with large windows, lake view and a direct access to the Garden. It is equipped with lighting facilities and on the walls there are special devices to hang the art works.

We suggest a simple itinerary at the foot of Grigna and Grignetta: it’s not necessary to reach the summit to enjoy the beauty of these “mythical” Lake Como mountains.
Start from Lecco and reach Ballabio in the hamlet of Balisio. Immediately after Tamoil petrol station, take the road on the left. The signposts display direction to the hamlet Ai Grassi e Ai Lunghi. This first stretch of the way can be travelled by car to reach Sacro Cuore Church (about 3 km) where car can be parked. From here follow the signposts to Pialeral and Rifugio Antonietta.
Soon after is the Farmhouse Ai Grassi e Ai Lunghi, where it’s possible to stop for a break to enjoy homemade cold cuts and cheeses. Nearby is also the Farmhouse Brunino with farm and refreshment.
The path goes into the wood and gently climbs along a dirt road that can be travelled by mountain bike as well. In about half an hour Pialeral hamlet can be reached, with views over Pasturo and the Valsassinese Plateau. The last part of the way is a bit steeper, but suitable to everyone.
In nearby Alpe Cova there are a lovely pond and several huts, going past Antonietta mountain hut.
The top of the Grigna stately overlooks these places and from here a path takes off leading to its summit and to Brioschi mountain hut.
