Taceno is a little mountain village situated near the Pioverna creek, in Alta Valsassina.
The parish church is situated quite lonely to the border of the inhabited area and , with its heavy bell tower , it dominates the surrounding area. The building dates back to 1406 and it was consecrated to Maria Assunta , patron of Taceno , in 1746.
The church has a white hut façade accompanied by a wide porch and by an elegant portal that leads to the aisle. Entering you can admire the presbytery , the central altar with two other lateral altars , dedicated to St Gioacchino and to St Anna and finally , the baptistery.
The most important part of the building is the pictorial one : the dome hosts a cycle of frescos made by Giovanni Maria Tagliaferri and his son Luigi , members of a famous family of painters that lived in Pagnona. Moreover , in the lateral parts of the building you can admire some canvas that represent : The apostles near the empty Assunta sepulchre and the coronation of Madonna Assunta , the annunciation to San Gioacchino , the education of the Virgin and the chapels of Way of Cross.

The so-called Via del Bitto, the famous cheese produced in these valleys, goes from Introbio in Valsassina, to Morbegno in Valtellina and was crossed in past centuries by shepherds and merchants.
This mountain area at the foot of the Pizzo dei Tre Signori is a destination for many hikers, who want to discover the wild beauty of these places and the numerous alpine lakes of glacial origin, which are located in the area, at an average altitude of about 2000 m.
It is possible to cover various itineraries. We present here the one staring from Rifugio Santa Rita (2000 m) and from here to Rifugio FALC (2120 m) and the lakes of Pizzo Tre Signori. The itinerary can be done in one the day, sleeping in a mountain hut and leaving early in the morning. Journey times are purely indicative.
Near Rifugio Santa Rita there are the trail signs for Rifugio FALC (about 1 hour). The path runs along the left side of the valley, at first it slightly rises and then it continues in a rocky valley with a magnificent view of the Pizzo dei Tre Signori. At a first junction we ignore the right path, and we take the left path that goes down into the valley. Following the clearly visible signs – to signal a small stretch equipped with chain, useful in case of wet rocks – in a short time, we reach a new fork and from here uphill in a few minutes we arrive to Rifugio FALC.
A little further on there is the beautiful Lake of Inferno (2085 m), with its blue waters that seem to shine, surrounded by the rugged walls of gray rock. We follow the walkway of the Inferno Dam and we take the path that descends steeply for 1 hour and a half to the Lake of Trona (1815 m) passing, in the first part, in a narrow rocky corridor and on the body of a large landslide , and then for a quieter path that leads to the Trona Dam. For a small detour of about 20 minutes we can reach the small Lake Zancone (1856 m).
VARIANT A
From Lake Zancone it is possible to get to Lake Rotondo in about an hour and a half: we continue on the path that climbs up for about 1 hour until reaching a fork, where we must keep the right, following the sign for Lake Rotondo (2256 m), which can be reached in about half an hour from here.
For the return, we go up for about 45 minutes from the path on the left of the lake, along a detritus gully and then to a rocky plate, until we’ll reach the Bocchetta Paradiso (2450 m) from which we can see the Pizzo Tre Signori. From here we descend on the opposite side of the Valle dell’Inferno, for a steep path, reaching the Bocchetta dell’Inferno (2306 m). We then take a right and we begin to descend the valley and, crossing some slightly exposed points, we meet the deviation for Rifugio FALC in about 45 minutes. We return to Rifugio Santa Rita for the same route.
VARIANT B
Returning to the Lake of Trona, we detach from the main path, which goes down to the lake, and follow the marked trail that goes through the Val Pianella, passing to the left of the lakes of Trona and Zancone and going up to the point where it meets on theright , at an altitude of about 2000 meters, the detour to Lake Rotondo. Then we go to the right, going up to a first plateau with large blocks. A second stretch of steep climb between rocks and thin pastures, towards the west, leads us to a floor where there is the Lake Rotondo. From here, as for variant A, we can reach Bocchetta Paradiso and then Bocchetta Inferno, Rifugio FALC and then Rifugio Santa Rita.
Difficulty : E ( Excursionist ) – EE (Expert Excursionist)
Travel time : 1 day with departure and arrival from Rifugio Santa Rita.

The parish church of Bellano , of St. Nazaro and Celso , is situated inside the village, near the Gorge entrance.
In 1341 , when the church was dedicated to St. George , the building was destroyed by a flood of Pioverna creek and then it was rebuilt.
So , in XIV century the new church was dedicated to St. Nazaro and Celso.
The building has a late Romanesque style , its façade hosts a big rose window and a tabernacle with a marble statue that represents St. Ambrogio. On the central arch you can admire amazing frescos dated 15th – 16th century , two confessionals made in wood and the baptistery in marble.
During the centuries the three aisles inside part was renovated few times : the sacristy and the bell tower , for example , were built in 1567.
The importance of the church is also dues to the precious late gothic processional cross and to the rich collection of ancient liturgical objects.

The St Rocco Church is a religious building situated at the foot of Mount Legnone , in the village of Villatico ( about 400 m ) of Colico. It is reachable walking through the Wanderer’s Trail , a route that linked some villages of the eastern part of Lake Como until XIX century.
Originally the church was dedicated to the roman soldier St Sebastiano , a character that appears many times in the frescoes , accompanied by St Rocco. St Rocco was a healer : the villagers invoked him to defend themselves from plague , cholera and animal diseases , that were very common between XVII and XIX century. The church dues its name to the fact that the Saint was represented like a pilgrim and for this reason the inhabitants felt him next to their lifestyle.
At the entrance you can see that there is a recently built porch , accompanied by the majestic bell tower. It is possible that, in the past , there was a construction used as hostel for the wanderers and also used as accomodation for the ill of plague. More over , on the churchyard there was a cemetery where people buried the corpses of plague and epidemics.
Inside , the building is decorated with numerous frescoes realized during the time , the more relevant representations are the martyrdom of St Sebastiano , struck by the archers , and the glorious St Rocco , accompanied by two angels. Near the altar , there is also a fresco of XVI century that portrays the Last Supper. From the hill of the church you can admire a breathtaking view of Colico and Lake Como. Every year, on August 16th , there is the popular feast of St Rocco.

The St. Andrew Church dates back to XIII century and it is situated in Bonzeno , a little locality in Bellano.
The building has a breathtaking view on the lake thanks to its location : in fact , it is situated at the end of the suggestive path that goes through the Chapels of the Way of Cross and near the Wanderer’ s Trail.
This religious place keeps , probably from the 19th century , the Bonzeno Cross : a full size masterpiece carved in walnut wood which dated back to the beginning of 1200.
The Cross is situated in the first lateral chapel of the church and it is considered one of the more important works of the territory , for this reason it was been exposed in the Diocesan Museum of Milan.
In addiction to the majestic cross , the church hosts beautiful frescos that date back to 16th and 17th century , like Madonna and Child and the Martyrdom of Sant’ Andrew.
The bell tower was built in 1741.
