Valsassina was dug for centuries. Through its mountains run kilometers-long tunnels once used to extract various types of minerals , a very important source for the industrial development of Lecco.
Nowadays it is possible to rediscover this ancient mining activity in the mines open to visitors.
In August 2015 Cortabbio Mining Park in Primaluna opened to visitors the Nuovo Ribasso gallery. Originally built in 1980 – 1985 , the gallery leads , through a 2 km course , to a majestic cave where in the last 30 years Baryte was drew.
Guided tours of the mines are conducted in small groups , at all safe conditions and wearing a protective helmet. The underground world seems to be still intact and the well trained guides explain the secrets of extraction techniques and those of miners’ life. The mines are an ideal destination for group visits of students and parishes.
Visits are organized from December to October every Sunday at 10.30am, 2.30pm and 4pm.

The church of San Calimero ( 1495 m ), a white building with a characteristic sloping red roof , is a very well known place in Grigna Settemtrionale (Northern Grigna).
It stands out clearly visible when looking at the mountains above Pasturo and it offers a spectacular view , overlooking Valsassina , Zuccone Campelli and Lake Como mountains.

The last Sunday in July here is celebrated the traditional party with the Holy Mass and lunch shared.

Il 1° agosto si festeggia il cinquantenario della Croce di San Grato a Vendrogno, con la S. Messa, la benedizione e possibilità di pranzo presso il Rifugio San Grato.
San Grato is a small hamlet in the village of Vendrogno (Bellano) and it is known for its location with amazing view over Lake Como mountains.
It’s easily accessible and it’s a place plunged in greenery, a peaceful and calm oasis.
There is the small church of San Grato ai Monti and right before it the huge iron cross which, on August 1st 2015, celebrated its 50th anniversary. The church and the cross are located in an idyllic setting, with a panoramic balcony above Lake Como.
To reach San Grato leave the car in the car park in the hamlet of Sanico and take the path leading to San Grato (it’s on the bend right before the car park); getting there is a 10 minutes walk in the woods.
Several walks along the paths of the Muggiasca, the area of Mount Muggio, start from San Grato. One example is the walk to Alpe di Camaggiore which can be reached in just over an hour with a nice walk in the woods. From there again are another splendid view of the lake and the mountains and another huge iron cross.
Domenica 2 agosto l’Associazione Valsassinese Amici del cavallo organizza il primo equiraduno della Grigna, con una passeggiata a cavallo da Pasturo al Pialeral.
Il ritrovo è previsto per le ore 8.30 a Pasturo – Via per Introbio. Ore 10.00 partenza della passeggiata e arrivo al Pialeral per le ore 13.00 dove ci sarà possibilità di ristorazione.
Il costo di partecipazione è di € 25 per gli adulti e di € 15 per i bambini e comprende il prazo più il gadget della manifestazione.
