The massif of Pizzi of Parlasco is a rocky ridge that dominates Alta Valsassina landscape and that overlooks the homonymous hamlet of Parlasco. There are different hiking routes to reach the Pizzi , with medium-high difficulty itineraries suitable for expert hikers , that offer breathtaking landscapes on Valsassina and Lake Como.

The Guide Alpine del Lario e delle Grigne ( mountain guides ) group has recently do a setup and traking work of these paths , whose we make reference in this listing. We suggest to contact the mountain guides for excursions tours.

Among these itinerares we chose the trekking that goes from Parlasco to Pizzi of Parlasco , along Sentiero 1 ( trail n. 1 ), that leads from Parlasco ( 679 m ) to Bocchetta of Cavèe. From the village you climb , following the indications to Pizzi di Parlasco and Sentiero dei Cavèe , until a fire road , situated over the territory inhabited. You have to overcome the crossroad that points out Sentiero 2 ( trail n. 2 ) and you proceed until the trail sign that announces the trailhead ( trail n. 1 ). From here in 1 hour and 30 you reach the Ancient Mines of Manganese , climbing steep hairpins in the wood and , moving forward from this point , in about 40 minutes you get to Bocchetta di Cavedo ( Cavèe ). From here on out there is the Sentiero delle Creste that allows to reach , on the left the Alp Cainallo in about 1 hour , or on the right the Cima di Daas ( 1509 m ), in about 40 minutes.

It is also possible do a loop – trail itinerary: at the crossroad of Sentiero delle Creste proceed taking the right path in direction Agueglio, from here you can go back to Parlasco following a lanes.

Difficulty level : EE ( Expert Excursionist )

Travel time : about 3 hours

The Mount Muggio loop – trail is a trekking that allows to enjoy the different sides of the mount and its landscapes on Valsassina , Valvarrone and Lake Como.

The starting point is the big parking of Alpe Giumello ( 1530 m ), where you can start the ring route  from both senses. In the pictures and in the description we chose to travel it in anticlockwise : watching the Giumello cross you have to take the right path and follow the trail sign ” Anello Monte Muggio “.

The route is almost completely flat. In some places it has passages on rocks, which can be overcome thanks to chains.

After passing through the Giumello green grasslands , overlooking Grigne and Pizzo Tre Signori mountain group , you take a narrower trail that crosses a magnificent secular beech trees wood. After about half hour of walk , you go down a slope until the St Ulderico Church ( 1394 m ), an ancient mountain church dating back to XI century that offers a spectacular view on Mount Legnone. You go up again to the ring path where you have to go through woods and lawns , admiring the sight of Valvarrone , until you reach a panoramic point down to Lake Como. We are over the villages of Dervio and Bellano where in the clear days the view spaces up to the Swiss Alps. A lanes goes until Alpe Chiaro and from here you can go back to Alpe Giumello.

The Forts’ Trail is a nice route developed by the CAI of Colico with the purpose to valorize the Forts of the village , that are situated on ” Montecchi “, two natural hills which are at the intersection of the high Lake Como , Valtellina and Valchiavenna.

The itinerary begins from the railway station of Colico where , once that you cross the underpass , you have to proceed toward the waterfront , until the parking area. Here you find Via alle Torri , following this street you can reach the path that starts with a little bridge that you have to cross : from this point you can admire the Tours dating back to XII century. You continue the route until you reach an asphalted slope : at the end of this street there is the Montecchio North Fort , an important First World War bulwark. For information about guided tours go to the website www.fortemontecchionord.it

Then the path continues going through Monteggiolo and Erbiola and crossing a bridge over the Borgofrancone Canal , until you reach the crossroads that leads to the Fuentes Fort , a spanish building which dates back to 1600. For information about visits go to the website www.fortedifuentes.it

La Cà di Radio Vecc , that means the old radios house , is a Gramophones and vintage Radios Museum opened in 2014 in a building situated in the historical center of Bellano. The museum hosts a wider collection that the owners Paolo and Rina Panatti have conserved during 50 years.

The exhibition is divided in six sections arranged in chronological order , from Guglielmo Marconi until 1960. In addition to unique pieces like the first Marconi radio of 1923 or exclusive gramophones , you can admire specimens of home-made radios. The exhibit ends with a section that is entirely dedicated to vintage televisions , since the first. The Church of Saint Mary ( 661 m ) is a sanctuary built in XI sec. that is situated on Grigna Settentrionale ( Northen Grigna ), near an ancient transport route that links Mandello del Lario to Valsassina.

This religious place is reachable going thrugh a stone route , dipped in the nature , that cross various chapels of the Way of the Cross , here you can also see the Chapel of St Preda ( Saint Brigida ).

The Romanesque church , dedicated to Virgin Mary , presents only one aisle and hosts some frescoes and a sixteenth-century painting. Over time, the construction was extented to host wanderers , but it has almost completely mantained its native aspect : as can be seen from the bells tower. Even though , the walls give an imponent and difensive aspect to the building and offer to the visitors an amazing landscape.

The climb to the church is suitable to everybody and it would be consider like a proper destination for half day excursions , it is reachable by Somana , in 30 minutes following trail signs 15 or 17.
